The Former Minister for the Ministry of Climate Change Honourable Ham Lini Vanuaroroa launched a water supply system under the IRCCNH Project in the island of Tongoa in 2019.

The Department of Climate Change (DOCC) operates with a dedicated Project Management Units (PMU) aimed at ensuring the effective management, implementation, and integration of Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation projects and activities across Vanuatu.

The PMU's primary purpose is to facilitate the coordination and oversight necessary for the successful execution of climate change initiatives throughout the country.

Through access to adequate resources and a team of qualified, skilled, and motivated staffs, the PMU actively engages in managing and operating the implementation and integration of all climate change multilateral agreements relevant to Vanuatu.

This includes robust participation in national, regional, and international climate change programs, fostering effective collaboration with local, regional, and international partners.

The Project Management Units (PMU) within the Department of Climate Change (DOCC) is currently tasked with overseeing the management of seven multi-sectoral projects.

These projects represent collaborative endeavors supported by diverse entities, each contributing to Vanuatu's climate resilience and sustainability efforts. Among these initiatives, the Vanuatu Community Based Climate Resilience Project (VCCRP) stands as a flagship endeavor supported by the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

Through targeted interventions, VCCRP aims to enhance community resilience to climate change impacts across Vanuatu. Additionally, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) supports the Vanuatu Coastal Adaptation Project II (VCAPII), focusing on bolstering coastal resilience and adaptation measures in the face of climate-related challenges.

The Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) supported by United Nations Office for the Project Services (UNOPS) plays a crucial role in enhancing Vanuatu's Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems.

The World Bank's Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT) project supports efforts to strengthen Vanuatu's capacity for transparent reporting and monitoring of climate action initiatives.

Additionally, the Pacific Ecosystem Based Adaptation on Climate Change (PEBACC) project, facilitated by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Program (SPREP), focuses on leveraging ecosystem-based approaches to enhance climate resilience in the Pacific region.

Lastly, the Pacific Risk Tools for Resilience 2 (PARTner2) project contributes to building resilience through the development and implementation of risk assessment and management tools tailored to the Pacific context.

Through the collective efforts of the PMU and its partners, DOCC remains committed to advancing Vanuatu's climate change agenda and fulfilling its obligations under international agreements while addressing the unique challenges and opportunities presented by climate change in the region.
