Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation

Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation

The government of Vanuatu is undertaking REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) Readiness to enhance mitigation efforts in forest management. Its objective is to strengthen Vanuatu’s capacity to design a socially and environmentally inclusive national strategy for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.

It will also provide for conservation, sustainable forest management, and enhancement of forest carbon stocks. National mitigation considerations should equally consider forest and terrestrial (green) carbon sinks, as well as oceanic, coral reef, and seagrass (blue) sinks.

The REDD+ Programs for Vanuatu co-host between the Department of Climate Change (DoCC) and the Department of Forestry. Department of Climate change coordinates and facilitates the programs while the Department of Forestry is its implementing entity and about to complete and finalize overall activities under its Readiness phase of the project.

For more detail informations relating to the studies, reports and other related activities implemented as part of the Readiness Phase of the REDD+ programs in Vanuatu, you can visit the REDD+ website. Please visit this site to educate yourself about the significance of Forest to the people of Vanuatu. Also to see the changing state of forest degradation overtime and the drivers contributing to the degradation.

A message to all, protect our forest, educate others on the significance forest to climate change mitigation. Take time out to at least some trees to help reduce carbon emission in the AFOLU Sector.
