Pacific Climate Change Centre Strengthens Collaboration with Vanuatu Government Ahead of Regional Innovation Forum

Port Vila, Vanuatu – The Pacific Climate Change Centre (PCCC), hosted at the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), and the Innovative Solutions for Pacific Climate Change Resilience (PCCC-ISPCCR) Project, continues to deepen its support to the Government of Vanuatu through an in-country mission aimed at advancing preparations for the upcoming Pacific Innovation Forum on Climate and Environment (PIFCE), set to take place in 01-03 July of this year.

As part of this mission, the PCCC and ISPCCR team held a high-level briefing with the Honorable Ralph Regenvanu, Minister for Climate Change of Vanuatu.

The meeting provided an important opportunity to align priorities and strengthen collaboration on Vanuatu’s leadership of this regional initiative. Discussions focused on the vision of the Forum, which aims to create a dynamic platform for innovators, focusing in private sector, academic Institutions, Non-Government Organizations, civil societies, and communities, across the Pacific to showcase practical, locally-driven solutions that address the impacts of climate change and contribute to environmental protection.

The Pacific Innovation Forum on Climate and Environment (PIFCE) is envisioned as a catalyst for transformative ideas, bringing together private sector, academic Institutions, Non-Government Organizations, civil societies, and communities. It will highlight innovative approaches from the Pacific in areas such as climate adaptation, mitigation, environment management, sustainable resource management, and resilience-building, with a strong emphasis on Pacific-led solutions.

Importantly, the Forum will be preceded by a Ministerial Talanoa Session scheduled for 30th June, which will bring together Ministers from Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS). This high-level dialogue will serve as a key pre-COP engagement, providing a platform for regional Ministers to align priorities, exchange perspectives, and strengthen a unified Pacific voice in preparation for the upcoming COP31 climate negotiations.
